Jacksonville Heights Park - Duval, FL Fishing Report on 28th Jun, 2026

The late July heat is fully settled in across Jacksonville, pushing water temperatures up and shifting our most productive fishing to the early morning hours. By getting out ahead of the sun, we are still finding plenty of hungry fish navigating the backwaters and marsh lines.

Current Conditions Water Temperature: Upper 80s

Water Clarity: Stained in the creeks, cleaner near the inlets

Best Tides: The early morning incoming flood tides have been highly productive for pushing into the grass.

What's Biting Redfish We are seeing excellent movement from the reds right as the sun comes up. Working the flooded spartina grass during the morning high tides has yielded solid numbers of slot-sized fish.

Tactic: Topwater walk-the-dog lures are producing solid strikes at dawn. Once the sun is up, switching to cut mullet or live mud minnows pinned to the bottom is keeping the bite going.

Speckled Seatrout As the shallows heat up mid-morning, the trout are dropping back into deeper, cooler runs along the St. Johns River and Intracoastal Waterway.

Tactic: Drifting live shrimp under a popping cork along the shell banks in 4 to 8 feet of water is consistently getting the job done.

Flounder The flounder bite is remaining steady, especially around the creek mouths during the outgoing tide as bait gets flushed out of the marshes.

Tactic: Dragging a jig head tipped with a live mud minnow slowly across the bottom is picking up some nice-sized flatfish.

Captain's Tip for the Week Beat the heat. The fish are active, but their feeding windows are shorter. Getting on the water in the dark and casting by first light is the key to a successful trip right now. Once the midday sun hits, the fish hunker down to stay cool in the deeper channels.
